Our next Spotlight team member heavily subscribes to being a trailblazer in his industry. Scott Murff is always looking for ways to make Statwax and the ways we help clients reach goals better, faster, and stronger. As an Account Coordinator, he manages and optimizes paid search and paid social campaigns for clients. Always looking for new paths to walk, Scott is determined to help lead Statwax into new discoveries.
What makes you proud to work at Statwax?
Statwax is a place that cares about its employees and their development. It’s a workplace that lets us carve our own paths and specialties.
Why did you choose to work at a digital marketing agency that was focused on the education space?
I enjoy the idea of a place that chooses a direction and a niche. Statwax tries to learn as much as they can about their area of focus in order to best serve their clients. To me, that is more attractive than an agency that tries to be a jack of all trades, and master of none.
What qualities do you think sets Statwax apart from other digital marketing agencies?
Our size – we’re not so big that we’re rigid and corporate, but we’re also not so small that we’re influenced too much by a single person. We’re agile and adaptive while still maintaining a structure.
How does Statwax support your professional development?
There are some opportunities that I haven’t taken advantage of, like stipends. But the biggest way that Statwax has supported me is by letting me explore what I want to explore. They encourage me to learn about things that don’t necessarily have a direct impact on my job title or job description. This is my favorite aspect of working here at Statwax. If it is something that will better me or the company as a whole, they are all for it. I can choose my own path.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I’ve been playing a lot of video games ever since I graduated. Some of my favorites are Sekiro, Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassin’s Creed, and so on. I also enjoy watching copious amounts of anime.
What is something you are proud of about the work you do here?
My first big win was the script that I made when I was an intern. I was originally tasked with reading lead submission emails from one of our clients and inputting the leads into a spreadsheet. Rather than spend so much time doing something so tedious, I wrote a Google Sheets script that could read emails and input it automatically. I have used that script in many other ways since then.
You were an intern before you became an account coordinator – can you describe your experience with that transition?
I took the full-time offer because I saw Statwax as a good opportunity to get experience with managing accounts while growing and developing as Statwax does. Transitioning from an intern to a full-time employee was pretty seamless. I had to transfer teams but everyone involved was very helpful in getting me situated. I already felt like a complete member of my new team with the duties I’d been trusted with. I felt well-prepared for an expanded role given the training and oversight I had as an intern.
Do you have any advice or encouragement to share?
There are plenty of resources out there, which means it’s important to seek it out and explore on your own. We kind of expect you to be proactive and learning on your own so you should already be developing that discipline and initiative to seek out information to develop yourself. As one of our core values says – never stop learning.
