One of our core values at Statwax is to never stop learning. As an agency that specializes in the higher education space, it’s practically impossible to not subscribe to that philosophy. Our team is in constant search of knowledge. And we want to help others level up their learning too.
Our next team spotlight member, Alex Lo, is taking education by the horns. Alex is our SEO intern in the Dallas office. She’s been on the ground floor of Dallas team growth and assists our Director of SEO in accounts, reports, and client information. While Alex is learning all the ins and outs of SEO and digital advertising as a whole, she’s also a full-time student at the University of Texas at Dallas. Never satisfied with her current knowledge and skills, she exemplifies Statwax’s drive to learn.
What makes you proud to work at Statwax?
I love all the variety. I get to do something different and learn something new every single day. It helps me reaffirm that the time I’m spending here is valuable.
Why did you choose to work at a digital marketing agency that was focused on the education space?
One of my first jobs was working as a content writer for a small financial company. Getting that experience made me wonder if there was more to digital marketing. I started to take digital marketing and social media marketing classes as electives and a whole new world opened up. The internet is so vast and people can search for information so fast nowadays. I want to be able to follow along with the trends and even help develop it further.
What qualities do you think sets Statwax apart from other digital marketing agencies?
All of the collaboration and creativity that goes on here really make Statwax unique. I like how friendly and open everyone is. I can ask questions comfortably, which hasn’t always been the case in other environments I have been in. Here, I’m recognized for my work and achievements. My supervisors and coworkers make me feel like I can say, “I did this.” They make me feel proud.
How does Statwax support your professional development?
Going back to what I had mentioned before, the variety. There’s always a new challenge to tackle each day. Although I’m on the SEO team, I get to dip my feet into everything that’s connected to digital marketing. My manager always encourages me to try new things and gives me projects to work on to develop a new skill.
What activities does Statwax offer to promote team building?
The Dallas team is still small, so we keep it pretty casual. We’ve watched movies together and go out for lunches or dinners often. But we’re looking to change things up a bit soon. If we hit our monthly office challenge, we are going to go to a haunted house together! It motivates me to work hard and accomplish cool things for the company.
What is your favorite thing about working in the Statwax office?
The coworkers. It’s a lot of fun and there’s a lot of flexibility. As long as I get my work done, I’m allowed to manage my own time. I love having that autonomy. It makes me feel like my boss trusts me. I also really liked half-day Fridays during the summer. Having that extra bit of time is really helpful since I am also a full-time student.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I love drawing, working out, watching YouTube videos, and playing computer games like Minecraft and Overwatch!
What is something you are proud of about the work you do here?
I’m proud that I pulled two full SEO reports for Stratford and Next Level Jobs. Being able to do something directly for a client as an intern makes me feel accomplished. Of course, I had some guidance but my boss is always giving me praise, which encourages me to continue to do better.
What is one of your professional goals?
I want to get into a career that involves UX design. In order to get there, I hope to expand more on my skills. There’s still so much that I want to learn and absorb. I’m really lucky that I’m figuring this out while I’m still in school because I can use my elective credits to learn something I’m interested in.
Do you have any advice or encouragement to share?
Just do it – like that one meme. I also believe in the phrase “you only live once.” As cheesy and overused as it can be, it’s true. Don’t be afraid to just go out there and do it. At least go out and try. Want to work for a company that you don’t feel qualified for? Just submit that resume. You never know what could happen. It can only add to your experience.
