Our next team spotlight is always one of the first to ask these questions. SEM Team Lead Anthony Schimmoeller heads several client accounts, managing, strategizing, building, and executing ads campaigns with his team. But simply delivering top-quality service and numbers isn’t enough for Anthony. He strives for an environment that brings different people together to find creative solutions to tough problems.
What makes you proud to work at Statwax?
We’re actively trying to be inclusive in every aspect of working life. We’re very intentional both within the hiring process and with our current employees. We want a diverse group of people who are highly qualified and offer different perspectives. I’m proud that the company is always open to new ideas during the problem-solving process. There’s a lot of willingness to branch out but still remain inclusive.
Why did you choose to work at a digital marketing agency that was focused in the education space?
The short answer: so that I can continue to learn more and continue my professional and personal growth.
I actually started in accounting. I was introduced to Google Adwords after I accepted an opportunity to work for a contractor for Google and I really enjoyed the platform. What I enjoyed about accounting is sifting through data and crunching numbers. With Ads, I can do that while also having more creative freedom. Things are always changing, so there’s always more to dig through. I specifically liked working in the higher education space because I want to help companies that aren’t just single-mindedly looking for bottom-line growth. I wanted to know that I was contributing to something more meaningful.
What qualities do you think sets Statwax apart from other digital marketing agencies?
Our willingness to consider all opinions and our ability to turn our interests outward. We don’t just care about ourselves, we care about our clients and their growth. This leads us in directions that aren’t always linear, which I think is good. We gain more perspective and get the opportunity to help others while allowing people to be comfortable being who they are. This kind of corporate environment isn’t constraining.
How does Statwax support your professional development?
They offer incentives, resources, and actively look for training events and conferences to invite the employees to. Our President, Brian, brought me and another account executive to Hero Conf. It was an amazing learning opportunity that they exposed me to.
What are some of the ways that the Statwax office celebrates successes?
I don’t take a big stock in big celebrations, but we celebrate as a company when things go well. Everyone is also generous with verbal acknowledgment.
What activities does Statwax offer to promote team building?
My favorites are the board game challenge and the pig basketball game. It promotes healthy competition and camaraderie.
What is your favorite thing about working in the Statwax office?
The people. I’ve worked by myself in an office and at home before. Having people with the same mindset around you to bounce things off often leads to better solutions. We feed off of each other in terms of focusing, creativity, and problem-solving.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Pretty typical stuff – I play video games and watch TV. But I’m starting to travel a bit more. Prior to working at Statwax, I’d never been on a plane before. My first flight was to Oklahoma City last September. Since then I’ve gone to Hawaii, Philadelphia, Orlando, and I’m going to New York next month. I want to go to Japan to visit my sister who’s in the Air Force within the next few years.
What is something you are proud of about the work you do here?
The Next Level Jobs account as a whole since it’s the first account I’ve led here. It’s special because I really built it up from scratch.
What is one of your professional goals?
I want to become an expert in display ads, video ads, and remarketing ads. I want to revamp some of our internal processes to improve and optimize them. I would also like to grow my team and have people that I manage, start managing others.
What is your personal hope or aspiration?
I want to get a passport and then visit Japan. I also want to buy a few rental houses and start my own property management company.
Do you have any advice or encouragement to share?
In terms of getting into the field, I think the best advice is that failure is inevitable. You have to look at it as a learning opportunity. In this field, there’s always going to be something that doesn’t work and you can’t allow that to stop you from trying something new. You can’t be scared to fail. Be confident in what you want to accomplish and do your best to make it happen.
Especially to the younger folks, I would encourage them to pursue their own dreams first. It’s easy to get caught up in what others want and put yourself on the back burner. Helping others is important, but there needs to be a balance.
