Statwax Team Spotlight: Joe Preiss, Data Innovation Team Lead

The Statwax team is comprised of a lot of enthusiasm. Not only when it comes to our higher ed campaigns, but also to the activities and conversations that are uniquely Statwax. On some days, that might mean going all out in a pre-work bootcamp with our on-site personal trainer. On others, it could simply be an intense focus on the puzzle in our de-stress room.

No matter what task is at hand, our team tackles it with energy. The same goes for our Data Innovation Team Lead, Joe Preiss. Joe’s zeal for numbers and the stories they tell is as infectious as the office’s laughter following one of his expertly delivered punchlines. Catch a glimpse for yourself and read our Q & A with the analytics authority himself.

Why did you choose to work at a digital marketing agency that was focused in the education space?

The education space is a data person’s dream. There is so much data that can be analyzed. Following a student’s journey to enrollment is fascinating. It is a long path to a conversion which means that there are a lot of touchpoints that can be analyzed. There is so much data that we analyze in order to optimize accounts. And the best part is each school is different.

What qualities do you think sets Statwax apart from other digital marketing agencies?

Personal relationships within the company and the work we do with clients. The Statwax office is very unique and lively. We are encouraged to not only meet clients needs but to try new things and keep learning. We are also very client facing. At most agencies, a person in my position would not have much contact with clients but at Statwax I talk to clients about what I have found from analyzing data and share visuals with them.

What makes you proud to work at Statwax?

Two reasons, the environment and the work we produce for clients. The environment is very inclusive and everyone encourages learning. At Statwax you are encouraged to ask questions and try new things. Everyone is encouraged to keep learning. I am also proud of the work we produce for clients. We are very transparent with what we do and because of this, our clients feel like true partners. They value our input and are willing to try new ideas when we suggest them.

How does Statwax support your professional development?

I love to learn new things and am constantly trying new ways to visualize or automate data. Statwax fully encourages me to try new things, whether it be attending a conference, taking a Coursera course or working at a nearby co-working space. Statwax values professional development and provides a great environment for me to constantly try new things

What do you think is the most important marketing lesson you’ve learned since working at Statwax?

This is going to sound very cliche but I learn new lessons every week. Whether it be data related from a brainstorm with Jordan or hearing about a new top of funnel marketing technique. We try so much new stuff at Statwax that I am constantly learning new lessons. Statwax stays ahead of the curve, which means that I am either learning or teaching new marketing lessons every week.

What is your favorite thing about working in the Statwax office?

The people I work with. The environment is very inclusive and everyone is encouraged to speak their mind. In a normal day we can go from having an in depth brainstorm to arguing about whether or not a hot dog is a sandwich. We do great work around here but also love to have fun arguing about random topics.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Hobbies, interests?

I really enjoy the outdoors. I like to go on hikes, mountain bike, ski in the winter, fish and golf. I try and spend as much time as possible outside and love to bring along my dog with me. I am also originally from Massachusetts and a huge Boston sports fan. Everyone at Statwax gives me a hard time for it, but I love watching and rooting for them.
